M.S. Paper Title:	Genetic Algorithms for Strategic Optimization

Abstract:

In this paper we investigate the use of Genetic Algorithms to
evolve optimal strategies to the Prisoners Dilemma, a classic game theory
problem. This problem was heavily studied in the 1980s, but with the
computing power currently available, we were able to greatly extend the
existing body of research on the subject. Using genetic algorithms in a
dynamic environment, we were able to discover the constant traits of an
"optimal" player over a long evolutionary period. Our results show that
(1) the genetic algorithm is strongly suited to this problem, (2) the type
of player sociologically thought to be superior closely resembles our
"optimal player" description, and (3) over time, populations will evolve
to resemble this optimal player.
