*Title*: Embodied Spatial Intelligence: from implicit scene modeling to
spatial reasoning

*Abstract*: Humans live in a 3D space, and so do all other animals. A
defining characteristic that sets us apart is our ability to deploy
intention into spatially organized plans. Our actions are not merely
reactive, but may be executed in long-horizon over spatial or temporal
dimension. We assign semantics into the 3D world, and understand them in a
hierarchical way that could be communicated with natural language.

Robots today need the same capability to be able to interact with and serve
us in the same 3D world we live in. While they may have powerful motors and
unbreakable steel bodies, challenges exist for them to understand the world
as we do with their perception systems: 1) the ability to accurately and
robustly perceive the complicated 3D world; and 2) the ability to reason
over the spatial concepts they observe. This thesis attempts to build
solutions towards addressing these two challenges.
