Hi all — please join us on *Wednesday at 12:30pm* for another theory lunch!
Details below:
*****
*Date: *May 22, 2024
*Time:* 12:30pm
*Location:* JCL 390
*Title:* Downcoding, and open questions for the summer
*Speaker:* Aloni Cohen
*Abstract: *De-identification techniques---including k-anonymity---remain
widely used in practice. This is despite a general consensus in the CS
privacy community that those techniques are broken. In not-so-recent work,
I introduced a new class of privacy attacks called downcoding attacks, and
proved that a large class of de-identification techniques are vulnerable to
downcoding attacks if they are “minimal” and “hierarchical.”
I’ll explain downcoding and the main result, and state 5 open questions.
