Title: Controllable Generative Editing of Mesh Geometry
Abstract: Triangle meshes are the standard representation of geometry for computer graphics, yet manual mesh editing for 3D modeling remains difficult and requires expertise. Using the text and visual understanding of pretrained 2D image diffusion models as supervision, we develop methods for text-guided, controllable mesh deformation and remeshing: Geometry in Style, for triangulation- and identity-preserving shape stylization via surface normal-based deformation, and RADmesh, for remesh-aware deformations that can grow new parts and perform detailing with isotropic remeshing to adaptively change triangulation. Both methods accomplish their goals via our new differentiable As-Rigid-As-Possible (dARAP) deformation layer inspired by classical As-Rigid-As-Possible modeling. dARAP allows for vertex-based optimization variables that solve to smooth global deformations and offers controllability by construction rather than by loss: region localization by linear system boundary conditions, tunable strength via hyperparameters of a Procrustes solve, and optimization-friendly remeshing by optimizer state interpolation. We achieve competitive visual quality and superior triangle quality against prior work in generative deformations.
