Title: Configurable Memristor-based Neuromorphic Accelerator for Online Learning

Abstract: Existing memristor-based crossbar accelerators are inefficient for online learning, due to frequent switching of bitlines and wordlines which consumes a large amount of energy. To overcome this inefficiency, we designed a configurable crossbar architecture that is optimized for different online learning algorithms, and can also efficiently perform inference/training tasks. We evaluated our design through detailed circuit-level and software simulations. Across a representative set of online learning tasks,  our configurable crossbar design consumes 65\% less energy on average, while incurring only 0.33\% area overhead, when compared to the state-of-the-art baseline.
