The Data Science Institute and the Mansueto Institute for Urban Innovation
are still recruiting UChicago student data science fellows for the new
Local Data Journalism Program, this summer. Fellows will be selected by the
end of January. Please share this with any data science students who may be
interested.

The Local Data Journalism Initiative

at the University of Chicago is an effort to establish partnerships between
newsrooms and university-led data science teams. This initiative aims to
support ambitious investigative journalism using the highest caliber data
science and artificial intelligence tools and methodologies — at a time
when news organizations are often strapped to invest in this kind of
rigorous reporting.

A data science team of faculty and selected students at the University of
Chicago will work closely with selected journalists over the summer of 2024
on a story they’ve proposed related to a critical issue impacting cities.
By the end of the summer, journalist fellows ideally will leave with
completed data analyses, visualizations, or other deliverables, validated
by the University of Chicago that they can use in their story. *Applications
are **still open for UChicago data science student fellows, including
graduate and advanced undergraduate students*. Fellows will be announced by
the end of January.
