Join us November 3rd for an informational session on the *Data Science
Clinic*, a new project-based class where students work on real-world
projects with industry, public interest organizations, and research labs.
The Data Science Clinic course (DATA 27100 and CAPP 30300/PPHA 30581/MACS
30300) gives students the opportunity to gain data science experience with
guidance from expert mentors. Teams of students work on real-world projects
that transcend the conventional classroom experience, including working
with imperfect datasets, applying models and algorithms to real-world data,
navigating security and privacy issues, communicating results to a diverse
set of stakeholders, and developing software prototypes.

At the info session, clinic leadership will preview the new projects and
partners, discuss details of the course and how it fits within the new
undergraduate data science major
<https://news.uchicago.edu/story/new-college-data-science-major-foundations-insight-impact>,
and past participants will provide examples from previous data science
clinic projects. This event will take place both in person at the John
Crerar Library building, Room 390, and online via Zoom
<https://uchicago.zoom.us/j/94463602154?pwd=Q2VBcFl5WmFKcEMyNkxGTkpJNTd6Zz09>.

with your preference for in-person or remote attendance, and we will follow
up with further details. For questions about the event, contact Mindi
Mysliwiec <mindi at uchicago.edu>, Director of Operations & Outreach for Data
Science.

This convening is open to all invitees who are compliant with UChicago
vaccination requirements and, because of ongoing health risks, particularly
to the unvaccinated, participants are expected to adopt the risk mitigation
measures (masking and social distancing, etc.) appropriate to their
vaccination status as advised by public health officials or to their
individual vulnerabilities as advised by a medical professional. Public
convening may not be safe for all and carries a risk for contracting
COVID-19, particularly for those unvaccinated. Participants will not know
the vaccination status of others and should follow appropriate risk
mitigation measures.
