Message-ID: <1032534512.8167.41.camel@linux.razor.net> Has anyone decided what project they're going to do? So far I have explored gnome, kde, ximian evolution, galeon, and ethereal. Most of them seem to need bug fixers rather than programmers, which isn't as attractive to me for a course. Also, I have had bad luck in the past with sourceforge as I joined projects and they just fizzled out. I guess I'll keep searching. What are your thoughts for the course? (I'm speaking for Stephen for the moment because he is en route from Japan). That having been said, we don't have solid project ideas in mind. We do, however, both have an inclination to work on something of a visual nature. In part this is because it's outside the realm of our classwork so far and also we've been working in a lab where everyone does visulization research and we got stuck with a statistical project. Preferably with OpenGL, but gui work and the like also interests us. -Ziba Benjamin Johnson wrote: > Has anyone decided what project they're going to do? > > So far I have explored gnome, kde, ximian evolution, galeon, and > ethereal. I don't mind visual stuff, but I'm more into the command line security programs and what not...although a good gui will never be cause for complaint from me. I am friends with the honeynet guys (honeynet.org), and they have a rootkit that is actually used to capture information about blackhats and crackers to use in analysis later on. So in a sense, the rootkit is actually used against hackers to hide the monitoring / sniffing tools. I have worked on the project for a while and they need a lot of coding so I may do that. They actually presented our project at the BlackHat conference in Vegas this summer. I'll let the list know when I decide on what I'll be doing to hopefully spur some more interest in getting this class off the ground. Ben
