Introduction to Midway2

The Research Computing Center has deployed a new high performance computing (HPC) cluster, Midway2, with more than 400 compute nodes, a high-speed low latency EDR Infiniband network to connect its tightly coupled nodes, new NVidia GPU K80 nodes, large shared memory nodes, and about 2.7 PB of raw storage. In this talk we will introduce Midway2, its architecture, storage structure, network interconnects, and how to login, compile and run jobs on the new system. Since Midway2 is equipped with the newest Intel processor and the EDR Infiniband interconnect, the talk will also review some of the optimization options that could further harness the compute power of Midway2. This workshop will also discuss how Midway2 is connected to the current Midway system (now referred to as Midway1) and the impact on the allocation policies.
