Title:       Multi-view representation learning with applications to speech
and language

Abstract:

Many types of multi-dimensional data have a natural division into two
"views", such as audio and video or images and text.  Multi-view learning
includes a variety of techniques that use multiple views of data to learn
improved models for each of the views.  In many cases multiple views help
by reducing noise in some sense. In this talk, I will focus on multi-view
learning of representations (features), especially using canonical
correlation analysis (CCA) and related techniques.  We are focusing mainly
on the setting where we have access to unlabeled multi-view data for
learning representations, which will then be used for some downstream tasks
that have access to only one of the views.  I will focus on our work with
CCA and its nonlinear extensions developed by ourselves and others, such as
kernel and deep CCA, but also give comparisons with other techniques based
on autoencoders or regression.  I will show recent results both on
simulated multi-view data and on speech and language tasks.
