Title: Completing the noisy circuit: Systems of feedback in models of
dysarthria

Abstract:

Dysarthria is a neuro-motor disorder in which disruptions in the lower
parts of the central nervous system (e.g., the cranial nerves and
cerebellum) distort articulatory commands to the muscles involved in
speech, resulting in utterances that can be very difficult to understand.
In this talk I introduce dysarthria and some control-theoretic models of
speech production, including task dynamics, and suggest that a new type of
model will be necessary to account for phenomena in this type of speech
disorder.
