Dear Colleagues,

The Computational Social Sciences workshop is a new workshop at the University of Chicago dedicated to exploring the possibilities of new, large, and non-traditional sources of data and corresponding, computationally-driven modes of analysis for social scientific research. The workshop will bridge both the methodological and substantive lines of inquiry in this field and seeks to connect students and faculty both at the University of Chicago and the broader field of computational social science.

This quarter, the workshop will be hosting an exciting range presentations, beginning with our first meeting this Friday from 2:00-3:00pm in Searle 240a. Monica Lee, a PhD student in Sociology, will be presenting her research entitled "Structuring Communicative Action" in which she uses computational content analysis to produce a groundbreaking account of the genealogy of critical theory. Below, you will find a complete list of the presenters this quarter. The workshop generally meets every other Friday from 2:00-3:00pm in Searle 240a, unless otherwise specified. You can go to the workshop's website, http://cas.uchicago.edu/workshops/compsocsci/, for abstracts, workshop updates, and information about computational resources, events, and opportunities throughout the year. If you would like to stay in touch with the workshop, please join our listserv at https://lists.uchicago.edu/web/subscribe/computational_social_sciences.

We look forward to wonderful year of productive discussion and hope to see you there tomorrow.

All the Best,
Jason Radford
