*31020 - Introduction to Statistical Machine Learning*
A systematic introduction to machine learning, covering theoretical as well
as practical aspects of the use of statistical methods. The goal is to
provide the students not only with a basic toolbox of learning techniques
but also with a solid understanding how, why and when these work or do not.
Topics include linear models for classification and regression, support
vector machines, regularization and model selection, multi-layer neural
networks, the EM algorithm, boosting, and others. Application examples are
taken from areas like information retrieval, natural language processing,
computer vision.

*Prerequisites:* probability, linear algebra, and undergraduate level
algorithms.
*Listeners are welcome, with instructor's permission.*

The course meets at TTIC, 6045 S Kenwood Ave,
