**** Course announcement:  Introduction to Machine Learning, TTIC 31020
(Autumn 2010)
Instructor: Greg Shakhnarovich
Time: MWF 9:30am-10:20am
Location: TTIC 530 (6045 S. Kenwood Ave., 5th floor)

A systematic introduction to machine learning, covering theoretical as well
as practical aspects of the use of statistical methods. Topics include
linear models for classification and regression, support vector machines,
regularization and model selection, and introduction to graphical models.
Application examples are taken from areas like information retrieval,
natural language processing, computer vision and others.

Prerequisites: familiarity with basic probability and algebra (the course
will include refresher/tutorial on these topics).
