M.S. Paper Title:  An algorithm for fast detection and tracking of 
small events

Abstract:
We present a coarse to fine method for fast detection and tracking of
multiple instantiations of small events in video. We define a 
statistical
model for the multiple instantiations problem. From this model we 
derive a
fast algorithm for the detection of events based on spatial edges. Using
information about the temporal change of intensities we significantly
reduce the amount of computation necessary for the detection. Then we
improve the detection accuracy using increasingly finer versions of the
algorithm. Finally, we track the events only in the regions where events
were detected. The tracking algorithm is also derived from the initial
model. Specifically, we convert the tracking problem into a least 
squares
optimization problem. The tracking algorithm is sped up using the
information about events obtained during the detection.
