	Computational Grids and High-Performance Computation:
The ultimate environment for code portability and adaptivity.

			    Lennart Johnsson
			Department of Computer Science
			  University of Houston

Computer networks are becoming pervasive and capabilities
of local, metropolitan and wide area networks are improving
at a rate that is even greater than that of processors.
Using remote resources in transparent ways is increasingly
realistic whether for capacity computing or in assembling
resources into virtual machines across a network serving as
a computational Grid. We will describe one approach towards
assuring code portability and good execution efficiency
through adapting codes both to execution environments and
problems to which the codes are being applied. Results from
applying this technique to software for the Fast Fourier
	Transform will be discussed.
